The 2022 Summer STEAM Experience (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) is happening face-to-face! This June we are offering classes in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math featured in one week, June 12-16, 2022. Students entering grades 9 to 12 in fall 2022 are invited to explore career paths with UW-Stout faculty experts in a campus setting. Dorm stays, camp activities and a college student panel will provide well-rounded experiences that highlight the value of creative and critical thinking.
For children living in the Menomonie School District - campers are able to register as day campers at no cost. The overnight camper fee is $150 for the full camp experience. Students must live within the School District of Menomonie Area to qualify.
This camp will follow UW-Stout's COVID-19 guidelines, safety requirements, and meeting protocols. See latest updates.

Interior Design - Track Leader: Julie Peterson Learn what real interior designers do! Campers will design a living space for their favorite celebrity. While designing this space, you will learn about project programming, the design process, space planning, and how to create a color palette. You will learn about and choose finishes and furniture for your celebrity space. You will hand draw your floor plans, compose imagery boards, and create a presentation for your project. We will also show current student work and interior design projects from around the world.
Video Production - Track Leader: Jonny Wheeler Have you ever wanted to make a movie? You can learn how to tell a story using video from development to the big screen. We’ll start by applying narrative structure to a script and planning the shots. Then we’ll dive into capturing professional-quality video. With guidance in pacing, we’ll cut shots together using industry-standard software. At the end of the week, we will watch your short films on the big screen in Stout’s historic Harvey Hall Theatre.
3D Animation - Track Leader: Jesse Woodward To infinity…and beyond! Campers will produce 3D animations using the same software that is currently being used at Disney Animation Studios. After learning the basics of the software, we will jump right into animating. We will explore professional techniques and follow the 12 principles of animation to produce believable and fun animations! By the end, the campers will have worked together to produce an animated short film that will be featured online.
Comics: Creative Non-Fiction - Track Leaders: Mary Clime & Kate Roberts Edenborg Love drawing and storytelling? You might just be a cartoonist! Campers will learn the ins and outs of writing, drawing, and producing an 8-page comic in this track. This collaborative project will go beyond the traditional superhero or newspaper comic by introducing creative non-fiction plot lines and honing your storytelling skills. Students will receive direction from both a comic artist and non-fiction writer to create a unique comic book.
Enameling on Metal: Grit, Gloss, and Finish - Track Leader: Rose Schlemmer Enameling is an historic technique where fine powdered glass is fired at high temperatures and fused to the metal surface. In this class, we will begin with the basics of how to enamel on metal and work our way through a few different techniques such as sgraffito, stencils, image decals, and champlevé, etc. Students will be able to make several enamel samples then design and create an artwork of their own.
Explore 3D Printing & More - Track Leaders: Wei Zheng, Adam Kramschuster & Alex Jordan Have you ever wanted to create your own game tokens, picture frames, or dryland hockey pucks? Do you want to learn 3D printing? This track teaches you to design and manufacture plastic/wood products. Learn injection molding, extrusion, 3D printing, thermoforming, wood cutting/finishing, and more in a state-of-the-art lab. This is a fantastic way to explore the high-demand Plastics Engineering profession.
