Notes for the Week - April 6th

The city of Menomonie has hired Rick Hollister as the new police chief effective April 16th. Hollister is currently a commander at the police Department. Chief Eric Atkinson is leaving the department to become the new city administrator. Look for a future story on Chief Hollister.

County offices are closed on Good Friday; city offices will be open.

The City will switch to summer hours starting Monday, April 10th. They will be open Monday through Thursday, 8:30am-4:30pm and Friday 8:30am-noon.

Here is a short documentary about the Menomonie Culver's by Stout student Payton Kosiorek.

The Dunn County Health Department recently started their own Facebook page.

Dunn County Veteran Service Officer Greg Quinn appeared on WEAU urging Veterans to review their benefits now that the PACT act has been passed. Watch the video here and see this previous post for more information.

Season's Harvest Greenhouse will be opening on Friday, April 21st.

Registration is open for the Get It Dunn Run. From Friday, April 7th through Monday, April 10th you can save $10 on either the 5K or the 1/2 marathon with code HOP2IT.

MHS track team's throwers won the throwers relay earlier this week and were featured on WQOW sports. Throwers (shot putters) don't generally run, so it is a race just for fun and usually is one of the highlights of a track meet. Check out the multiple videos here. In the first picture you'll see, from left to right are Aiden Untz, Kody Kazmarek, Jesse Kissh, and Parker Jacobs.

I've given a shout-out to Dunn County Partnership for Youth's Facebook page a few times, but it bears repeating. This is a really great page. Their vision is to promote safe and healthy communities for our youth. They share lots of great information.

The Foster Closet is not currently taking clothing donations, but they are in need of the following, diapers (particularly size 4, 5, and 6), wipes, kids 3 in 1 wash, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, men's and women's deodorant, diaper cream, boys socks (big and little). Check their website and Facebook page for drop off information.

The Menomonie Wrestling Club has announced the date for their annual golf tournament. It will be held on Saturday, August 26th.

The Leader Telegram ran a story this week about Seth Jeffs, brother of Warren Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Seth Jeffs purchased 80 acres of land in the Town of Lucas in June of 2020. While a link to the story in the Leader Telegram will, I believe, only be helpful to those that have a subscription, WQOW did run a story yesterday with much of the same information. You can watch it here.
