The Menomonie Mustang girls basketball team's history making season came to an end last Friday at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The girls fought the eventual Division 2 Champions, Notre Dame, to the end but came up short. The Mustangs pulled within two points midway through the second half but got into foul trouble and missed 14 of 18 shots in the second half. The final score of the game was 64-45. Mary Berg led the scoring for the Mustangs with 12 points. The girls finished with the best season in school history with a record of 25-4.
Menomonie should be proud of the character of these girls, their dedicated work throughout the season and the community's representation at the tournament. MHS students and the pep band, which sounded amazing, filled the stands at the Resch Center to cheer the girls on. A large sized group of Mustang fans young and old also made the trip to Green Bay to show their support.
The girls had a memorable send off with a special team meal the evening before they left, a parade through the halls of the high school before they loaded the bus and a police and fire truck escort that lead them past several of the elementary schools on their way out of town.
Thank you girls for a fantastic season and congratulations on making history!
