Officer Tyler Ingebretson was awarded the Medal of Valor for showing bravery in the face of a violent encounter with an emotionally distraught subject armed with a handgun. Officer Ingebretson calmly spoke with the subject, who stated they wanted to be shot by police. Officer Ingebretson utilized exceptional crisis intervention techniques to convince the subject to cooperate and receive psychiatric care. Without question Officer Ingebretson saved the life of the subject and the lives of others around him by his selfless act of bravery.
