MHS Girls Basketball Team Clinches BRC Title

The Menomonie Girls Basketball team clinched the Big Rivers Conference title outright after defeating Eau Claire Memorial 61-49 on Tuesday evening.


This is only the fourth time in school history that the girls basketball team has won a conference title. The previous years were 2010, 1986 and 1985.


The team has been led this year by 6'2" senior Emma Mommsen as well as senior Helen Chen and sophomores Mary Berg and Sammy Jacobsen. Both Mommsen and Chen are headed to Division II schools to play basketball next year.


Other members of the team include seniors Shelby Thornton, Bella Jacobsen, Lauren Berg and Cece Behrend, juniors Ashleah Quilling, Ally Lamb, Anna Wheeler, and Makenna Amundson, and sophomores Elizabeth Kyles and Sophia Schoenberger. The girls are coached by head coach Storm Harmon and assistants Eric Harmon and Lindsey Johnson.


The girls have one last regular season home game on Friday, February 18th against Hudson.


The girls first game in the Division 2 tournament will be on Friday, February 25th at 7pm. They will be playing the winner of the New Richmond vs. Holmen game that takes place on Tuesday, February 22nd.
