MHS DECA Has Successful Year

In January, Menomonie High School had 16 students compete at the DECA District Level Conference. As a virtual event, students competed online by taking a test and submitting a role play video. The following students were recognized this year at the District Level Conference:

Chloe Oehler- Business Services -1st Place Mackenzie Bird- Accounting- Top 4 Lauren McNally- Entrepreneurship - 2nd Place Olivia Burstad- Hotel and Lodging - 2nd Place Trysta Wayne & Kya Hayden- Buying and Merch- Top 4 Lily Hastings and Isabelle Kolek- Buying and Merch- Top 4 Maisah Wilson- Marketing Communications - Top 4 Kinleigh Richartz- Retail Merch- Top 4 Tali Swaenepoel & Connor Norby- Sports Marketing- 2nd Place Helen Simpson- Entrepreneurship- Role-Play Medalist Journey Winsand- Marketing Communications- 3rd Place Erin McNally- Principles of Business- Role-Play Medalist

Chloe Oehler and Helen Simpson received the Emerging Leader Honor Award. The Emerging Leader Honor Award recognizes members who are graduating seniors, have maintained at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have completed at least one course in marketing, business management and administration, entrepreneurship, finance or hospitality and tourism, and have participated in a variety of activities that helped them to become a community-oriented, professionally responsible and experienced leader.

In early March, students competed in the virtual State Career Development Conference. This year, all testing and events were held in a virtual format. Menomonie DECA earned the Gold Chapter Award.

At the state level the following students were recognized for their accomplishments:

Maisah Wilson: Apparel and Accessories - 5th Place

Chloe Oehler: Business Services - 6th Place

Lauren and Erin McNally: Entrepreneurship - 6th Place

Lily Hastings and Isabelle Kolek earned a Role Play Medal

Students who placed in the top 7 at state will have the chance to compete virtually at the International Career Development Conference in April.

DECA is a career and technical student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world. DECA prepares the next generation to be academically prepared, community-oriented, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders.
