Heart of a Caregiver Support Group

By Roberta Sosof Esquina

It’s been on my heart for a long while to start a ministry for caregivers in our community, and I am so excited to announce that I will be hosting a small support group starting this coming Tuesday, January 17, at Cedarbrook Church in Menomonie.

Nearly 8 years ago my son sustained a serious brain injury during birth, which resulted in diagnoses of cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and the need for a tracheostomy and feeding tube. There have been several moments where I have felt completely and utterly alone in this journey as a mother, as a caregiver to my significantly medically fragile child, and as a Christian. I came to realize that there is a need for a caregiver support ministry.

This group is open for all caregivers aged 18+. You may find that you’re a parent to a little one, like me, or maybe you’re caring for a sibling, or an aging parent. No matter your caregiving situation, you are welcome to this group. You do not have to be a member of Cedarbrook Church to attend – it’s open to the community!

I understand that caring for a loved one is difficult work. It can often leave a strong person feeling overwhelmed and stressed. If that’s you, then The Heart of a Caregiver is just the respite you need. I invite fellow caregivers to seek God’s life-transforming love through Scripture each day, allowing the holy Spirit to encourage you as you live out God’s call to love others through your service to them.
